Sam Beyond Women Artists Take In the World

Our favorite Art Historian and Art Critic, Dr. Susan Platt, will present a selection of highlights of the SAM exhibition Elles from the Pompidou Center in Paris. The talk will begin with well known artists Frida Khalo and Dora Maar,and turn to outstanding women artists in display elsewhere in Seattle including the work of Negar Farijiani, an Iranian artist at the MIA gallery,Tanis S’eiltin at the Seattle Central Community College, and and Shirin Neshat at the Seattle Asian Art Museum.
We meet at the Central ( otherwise known as the Central Area Senior Center) at 7:00 PM (NEW TIME) on November 7th at 500 30th Ave S ( one block south of Jackson at King).

Leschi Community Book Sale, Saturday, September 8th

On September 8th, the Leschi Community Council will hold a Book Sale in the parking lot at the Grocery Outlet at Union and MLK Jr. Way from 10 AM to 3 PM.

The proceeds from this sale benefit the Seattle Music Partnership which conducts after school instrumental music instruction at 4 local elementary schools: Leschi, Madrona, Bailey-Gatzert and Thurgood Marshall.  It’s a great opportunity to stock up on winter reading before the skies turn gray and the rains return.

Leschi Community Council Meeting, Wednesday, September 5th

The Leschi Community Council presents the two candidates vying for the newly created 9th Congressional District.  We are a part of the 9th as the 8th District now ends at the north end of our neighborhood. Jim Postma and Adam Smith, the two top vote-getters in the primary,  will be our guests.  They will each have time to speak followed by a Q & A exchange.  We meet on Wednesday, September 5 at 7:30 PM at Central Area Senior Center, 500 30th Ave. S. (one block south of Jackson) We meet in the Solarium.

Leschi Book Sale

The Leschi Community Council will hold it’s annual book sale in September. All proceeds benefit Seattle Music Partners, the elementary school tutoring program which prepares students to audition for the middle school and high school bands and orchestras. SMP has after school programs at Bailey Gatzert, Leschi Elementary, Madrona Elementary and Thurgood Marshall Schools. Please donate your used books for this sale.

6:30 – 7:30 p.m.    Dinner line open. Volunteer service staff work the line. Holiday choir.

7:30 – 7:35 p.m.    Last reminder to bid on auction items. Santa sighting?

7:35 – 8:00 p.m.    Dance troupe

8:00 p.m.            Bidding on silent auction closed. Raffle ticket sales closed.

8:00 – 8:30 p.m.    Raffle & silent auction item winners announced.
