2011 Leschi Holiday Potluck & Fundraiser

December 3, 2011, 6:00 – 8:30 p.m.

Leschi Senior Center

(500 30th Ave. S – 1 block south of Jackson)

Planned Schedule:

6:00 – 6:30 p.m.  Arrive, deposit potluck items to kitchen volunteers. Mingle. Buy raffle ticket. Bid on silent auction items. Live music.

6:30 – 7:30 p.m.  Dinner line open. Volunteer service staff (3 needed) work the line. Holiday choir.

7:30 – 7:35 p.m.  Last reminder to bid on auction items. Santa sighting?

7:35 – 8:00 p.m.  Dance troupe

8:00 p.m.             Bidding on silent auction closed. Raffle ticket sales closed.

8:00 – 8:30 p.m.  Raffle & silent auction item winners announced.

Other Need-To-Know Stuff:

Raffle tickets: $5.00 each, one prize per person.

Silent Auction items must be paid for by the close of the Holiday Party, at 8:30 p.m. Delivery for auction items will be arranged with the winners of each item.

There will be a Children’s Corner open. Parents are asked to sign their child in, and return within 15-30 minutes. Otherwise, it is imperative that parents stay with their young children at all times.

Attire: Festive.

The New Normal?? 

Is the extreme weather experienced in the last few years the new normal?  It’s time to prepare ourselves for possible extreme weather events and that overdue earthquake that is always being promised.  Our speaker is Mark Howard, Community Planning Coordinator for Emergency Services.

Once again, it’s time to look at the initiatives, levies, and propositions offered for the voters’ up or down vote in November.  And yes, the liquor folks are back again…too lucrative an issue to let die on the vine.  We will have PRO and CON speakers at our October Council meeting:

The September meeting will feature the projects supported by the Leschi Community Council: the various parks projects and the music program at Leschi Elementary School.

Follow the improvements at Frink Park by watching the slides and listening to Darrell Howe and Darcy Thompson tell us what the goals are for this enormous site.  The Leschi Natural Area and the String of Pearls will also be featured and discussed.

The time has come for the LCC to resume its monthly general meetings.  Our next meeting will be tomorrow evening from 7:30 – 9pm at the Central Area Senior Center. We invite all of our neighbors to join us for the discussions.

Meet the Authors of Seattle Geographies at the next LCC General Meeting June 1st @ 7:30 pm

Don’t miss the opportunity to hear the two authors of Seattle Geographies at our next meeting.  You know we have mountains and lots of water but we are relatively small as a city; why are we considered important?  And what about Social Geography?  That was not covered in my Paleolithic Era geography class.  What does that mean?  How can our quirky political leanings color our persona as a city?
