Metro Proposals and Updates on Commenting

At the Metro site you will find a drop down menu at the right provides a narrative  on each of the current revisions to the revisions that were presented in November 2011.

Remember if you commented in the first phase and have not yet taken the online survey or emailed during February and  have concerns, you must comment again.  The period for comment period on the second phase began in February  will continue throughout February and will end February 29.  Metro will then prepare a recommendation for King County Council to consider in the spring probably April. drop down menu at the right provides a narrative  on each of the current revisions to the revisions that were presented in November 2011.

  • Feb 21 12-2pm – Union Station, 401 S Jackson St, Seattle
  • Feb 23 6-8pm – QA Community Center, 1901 1st Ave W, Seattle 
  • Feb 27 6-8pm – Washington Middle School, 2101 S Jackson St, Seattle

  • Feb. 13 – Ballard (Ballard High School, 1418 NW 65th St, Seattle, 6-8 pm) 
  • Feb. 15 – West Seattle (Madison Middle School, 3429 45th Ave SW, Seattle, 6-8 pm)
  • Feb. 16 – Delridge/White Center (Chief Sealth High School, 2600 SW Thistle St, Seattle, 6-8 pm)

The highlights to this for the  Central District are:

  • The #27 will be restored to serve Leschi and Coleman Park during the day.  Frequency would decrease on weekends to once every hour. And it  it will be E Yesler Way until  Boren Avenue where it will be rerouted to Spring Street, Seneca Street, and Third Avenue rather than continuing along E Yesler Way to downtown Seattle.  Then it will continue as the #33 on Third Avenue  and vise versa on return trips.
  • The proposals to delete all of the #2 except the portion from Lake Washington to 12th Avenue with a reroute on Madison to the ferries where it  would turn around to the Lake again remains in this proposal.  This would be staggered with the #12 along new Madison portion.  Saturday service for the #2 along E. Union will decrease from every 15 minutes to every 20 minutes on Saturday.
  • The deletion of the #4 remains.
  • Proposed frequency increase in the #11 is no longer proposed.
  • Proposals for the #14 remain to delete service between 31st Avenue S/S McClellan Street and Mount Rainier Drive S. at all times and on Capitol Hill and downtown Seattle after 7 p.m. and to separate the north and south parts of the route. Take it off Third Avenue on the north and link it with the #1 on south on Third.  (map please)

Metro Releases Revisions to Proposal: Routes #2 ,#4, #12, #14, and #27

Metro released the narratives (maps to come) to  proposed revisions to original proposed changes yesterday afternoon, along with presenting a number of ways to comment:  http://metro.kingcounty.gov/have-a-say/projects/restructuring-system.html

The highlights to this for the  Central District are:

Speakers –

Don Comstock, PhD, Stanford, teaches political economics in the graduate Management and Leadership program and the Environment and Community program at Antioch University. Don has created and led public and nonprofit organizations in fostering community development and community-based economic development. He also has consulted with public agencies and small businesses and published in the areas of organizational and community change, critical theory and participatory research.

Nora Leech is a member of the National League of Women Voters Study Committee on Privatization and was the chair of the Seattle League’s 2009 study on Privatization. She currently serves as the chair of the Seattle League’s Economics and Taxation committee and serves on the State League’s Lobby Team. Nora is a long-time member of the League as was her grandmother before her.

Jim Sawyer, a political economist at Seattle University, writes extensively on “root causes” of economic dysfunction, particularly within the realm of economic ideas. At the beginning of the Great Recession, he was working in France as a Fulbright Scholar and publishing in Belgium, France, Great Britain and the United States.

  • ELIMINATES ROUTE #2 SERVICE ON SENECA &  THIRD AVENUE TO QUEEN ANNE.  x
  • MOVES ROUTE #2, WEST OF 12TH, TO MADISON -FIRST AVENUE – MARION WITH NO CONTINUING SERVICE NORTH OF MADISON TO QUEEN ANNE.SAFETY & ACCESSIBILITY x
  • No flat transfer stops on Route #2 downtown, requiring transfers downtown on steep hills.  x Route #2 bus stops will be in less active locations,impacting safety of evening and nighttime transfers. DELAY, TRANSFERS & ACCESS 
  • Madison is more congested than Seneca and added buses on Madison will further increase traffic congestion and delays.  
  • Transfers extend trip time and proposed route no longer serves many existing destinations directly, adding travel time and causing a loss of ridership.  
  • Requires transfers for any destination north of Madison, including 1, Light Rail 2.Benaroya 3.Westlake 4. Seattle Center at Mercer.  5. No longer connects to Light Rail or to the new RapidRide at Seneca and Third Avenue. 
  • Removes service on Seneca residential corridor  from Harvard Avenue to Seventh Avenue. 
  • These changes disproportionately impact seniors, disabled and vulnerable populations

Metro announces public meetings in February to on proposed Sept. 2012 changes

From Metro:Save the date: Metro to host public meetings in February to gather feedback on proposed Sept. 2012 Changes

Last November, Metro asked for public comment on suggested service changes related to the Sept. 2012 start of the RapidRide C and D lines. We are incorporating that feedback into a revised service change proposal that will be ready for public review next week. Like the changes we originally suggested last fall, this proposal will include changes to routing, frequency, and the times of day when routes will operate.  

  Would you help us inform the people you serve about this revised proposal and their opportunities to provide input?

Next month we’ll be hosting a number of public meetings, community partner conversations, and information tables in many communities, including Burien, West Seattle, White Center,  South   Park , Beacon Hill, Madrona, the Central District, Southeast Seattle, the University District, South Lake Union, Ballard, Queen Anne, Magnolia,  Fremont , and   Green   Lake . Details about the proposed routing changes and a survey will be available online after Feb. 1 at www.kingcounty.gov/metro/haveasay.
