Three Central District programs win $46,400 for technology

Today the city announced the winners of the 2010 Technology Matching Fund, which gives cash grants for projects that get people better access to computers, the internet, and other digital services.

Three Central District organizations scored 15% of the $300,000 annual program:

  • The Central Area Senior Center in Leschi is getting a big upgrade to their computer labe, and new opportunities to teach computer skills to older residents of the neighborhood. Total grant was for $13,400
  • The Urban League is getting $18,000 to replace aging computers for their job training programs
  • The Meredith Mathews YMCA is getting funds to expand their youth technology training programs, $15,000 in total.

The technology fund is named after Bill Wright, a Central District community leader who used technology to help build stronger neighborhoods.
