Sally Clark’s office: Twilight move OK’d pending..

“pending the final OK from the Liquor Control Board”

I was moved by an eloquent city planning oriented neighbor’s plea for the Twilight, so I wrote in too.

Here is the response:

“Hi jbatt,

I work for Councilmember Clark. Thank you for the message of support
for the Twilight Exit’s proposed relocation to 25th & Cherry. The final
decision is up to the Washington State Liquor Control Board, but after
hearing from many advocates like yourself, Councilmember Clark reached
out to the School District and the owner of the Twilight Exit to learn
more about the situation. It seems the Exit and the School District
have reached a compromise and the relocation will be able to move
forward as planned, pending the final OK from the Liquor Control Board.
I think the decision resulted in large part to the community-based
advocacy for neighborhood businesses.

Thanks for your efforts.

Best regards,

Dan Nolte
Office of Councilmember Sally Clark

  1. That’s great news! Stephan, please let us know if it would be helpful at this point to have community folks contact the Liquor Board.

  2. We have thankfully avoided a Quiznos or some other schlock…

Thanks to all who want and support locally owned, neighborhood serving businesses!

  3. Seems like rational and polite advocacy for this wonderful opportunity in our neighborhood ummmm actually can WORK.

  4. I received this response a few moments ago:

“Thank you for your letter supporting the Twilight Exit, lic # 400432.
Your letter will be considered by the Board prior to making a decision
    on the application.

Please reconsider the License application for the license for the
    Twilight Exit (reference # above) @ 25th & Cherry.
In light of recent violent events near the Garfield Community Center
last week & on Halloween, the benefit of having respectable businesses
in that area can only improve the situation.
A legitimate business (even if it does serve alcohol – gasp!), can
improve legitimate (read: NOT GANG) pedestrian traffic through the
neighborhood, & can only improve the safety for all of the residents
    there.
As a parent of two almost high-schoolers, the idea of an establishment
selling alcohol doesn’t frighten me as much as a gun-toting teen.
Please allow the Twilight Exit to operate under normal business
circumstances in our neighborhood (sans “good neighbor agreement”).
    Kind Regards,

  6. thats great news – except I still don’t follow what exactly they are compromising on, or have to compromise at all?
