Person in line at 23rd and Cherry gas station burned in coffee assault crossfire

A customer in line at the 23rd and Cherry AM/PM convenience store got caught in the path of an angry coffee buyer shortly before 10:30 a.m. April 9, according to the police report. The angry woman wanted a 20 ounce cup at the 16 ounce price. When the clerk demanded the full price, the angry customer tried to throw the coffee at the clerk, but hit the person waiting in line behind her instead.

The assailant then jumped up on the counter and kicked over a container of pepperoni sticks before fleeing the scene. From the police report:

  1. We hear about the damaged pepperoni, but no word mentioned about whether the other customer was OK from the hot coffee? Who cares about the pepperoni.

  2. Let me ask you something. When you come in on Monday and you’re not feeling real well, does anyone ever say to you, “Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays?”

  3. What’s even more sad is that this ridiculous tantrum was thrown over a difference of probably 25c or 50c.

  4. Sorry, that was in a part of the report that I did not include (but thought I had). She had minor burns and was treated at the scene.

  5. The innocent bystander wasn’t caught in a crossfire – he/she was caught in a backfire.

  6. “No. No, man. Shit, no, man. I believe you’d get your ass kicked sayin’ something like that, man.”

  7. I’m surprised the burned woman didn’t grab a can of whoop-ass and use it all over her.

  8. opening a can of whoop-ass is very un-seattle and our passive aggressive personality. I’m sure she will however go home/ work and talk about it for a week ;)

  9. If someone knocked out the suspect the suspect would play victim. Seattle is very passive-aggressive. The same people that talk badly about this city are the very ones who embrace it.

  10. Why does SPD provide the sex, race, and age of the victims/witnesses and yet no information about the suspect description or vehicle. It’s wierd. There needs to be a simple guideline on what information to release and then be consistent about it. It is quite possible that other people may have had encounters with the caffeinated terrorist on that day or another.

  11. I hope it wasn’t the nicest clerk they have at that store! She’s a tiny lady with a sweet smile. I used to be put off at the rude/indifferent attitude of the clerks when I first started going there. I realize now that it’s just the way they have to be to people that they aren’t familiar with. Sadly, being friendly/nice is not an asset in this part of town due to people like the coffee thrower. On a side note, what happened to the chili lime Popchips that were next to the pepperoni stix? Crushed in the melee I suppose :(
