The event is scheduled for Saturday June 18, 2011 from 10 am – 3pm at the Miller Community Center, 303 19th Avenue East, Seattle WA 98112 (19th between Thomas and Harrison). Miller Community Center is conveniently located in Seattle’s Central District and accessible to several Seattle Public Schools.

Event participants will be provided with tools and information that will empower them to begin and maintain an active lifestyle.  Participants will also be connected with community resources and programs that will inspire, support and provide resources that support broad awareness and specific awareness about childhood obesity and the risks and risk prevention measures associated with this growing trend.

We have developed activities designed to get young people listening, learning and thinking about their health and that of their communities. Our goals are aligned with the Jack and Jill of America Foundation’s five-point strategy. In that vein, this event helps to do the following:

§ Foster the building of character within children by imparting the makings for healthy choices and lifestyles.

§Instill cultural consciousness by emphasizing healthcare risks prevalent in the African American community and by imparting important facts and knowledge that bolster intellectual, moral, practical and emotional responsibility.

§Help youth provide leadership by promoting healthcare literacy community-wide.

§Create smarter, better informed youth

§Improve life skills

Free fun activities include: Indoor/outdoor Olympic-style games, 3-on-3 basketball tournament, Play 60 Fitness Challenge, cooking demonstrations, healthy treats, , workshops and more.
