KUOW Weekday continues a series looking into issues around prostitution in the area this morning by talking to some former pimps. Pastor Donald Jackson, who was a pimp when he was a young man in the 70s and 80s in the Central District, talks about how he got into (and out of) the life.
He and a younger former pimp discuss the mindset they had when they got involved with prostitution. Anthony, the younger of the men, said he saw being a pimp as “a way to get away from the gang life.” He now sees that he was placing a lot of the risks on the women he was exploiting.
You can listen to the program online. The conversation with Anthony and Pastor Jackson begins around the 21:30 mark.
