SDOT closes Lake Dell Ave due to heavy rainfall

SDOT was forced to close a stretch of Lake Dell Avenue Sunday due to concerns about hillside slippage following this weekend’s heavy rains. Lake Dell between addresses 175 and  265 was closed Sunday as SDOT planned to reevaluate the area Monday morning.

This image from the Seattle Municipal Archives shows a home along Lake Dell Avenue that was heavily damaged in a 1933 slide.

  1. I was there this morning! Going for my morning run down Lake Dell and ran into this massive mud/hill slide that I could barely walk through. The south side is a bit more manageable, on foot only, but I did get a few splinters and my shoes are a complete mess. Granted it was pitch black out at 6AM but even in daylight, I’m not sure how much better this would be. Avoid this section at all costs.
