The sound of Blue Angels in the air means that it’s also time for Umojafest, our official neighborhood summer Seafair celebration.
There’s three days full of activities, all centered at Judkins Park:
Friday:
- 11am – 3pm – Children’s Day with a variety of kids activities
- 3pm – Youth Empowerment Rally & Talent Show
- 6pm – Forum: Environmental & Social Justice in the Age of Obama
- 9pm – Kickoff part at Hidmo, 20th & Jackson
Saturday:
- Noon – African American Day Parade, heading up 23rd from Union all the way to Judkins Park
- Music at the Soul of the City and Hip-Hop performance stages
- 1pm – 6pm – UNCF Celebrity Cook-Off, supporting education
- Black is Beautiful Fashion Show
- MG Customs Celebrity Car & Bike Show, with celebrity cars and appearances by Jamal Crawford, Brandon Roy, Tre Simmons, and Will Conroy. Trophies given for best cars.
Sunday:
- Gospel Fest
- Music at the Soul of the City and Hip-Hop performance stages
Plus there will be food, vendors, sustainable living fair, and voter registration going on all weekend.
