New market at 18th & Jackson now open

The new market we first reported on last month is now in its third week in the parking lot at 18th & Jackson.

We stopped by right after they opened today and picked up some fresh corn and asparagus for $2.75.

They’ve also got tables with baked goods, flowers, and crafts.

One vendor was making earrings, necklesses, and bracelets from scrabble tiles and magazine cutouts such as the tabloid “Bat Boy” story.

The market is open every Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 5pm.

Update: The market organizer just called to say that hours are being changed to 9am-3pm starting this Saturday 6/19. She also said that Sundays have been slow compared to Saturday, so they may cut back to Saturday only if they don’t pick up some.

  1. I rode by here today and noticed the setup for the first time. I’ll give the vendors there a shot. Bring on freshness….

  2. will definitely plan on stopping by next weekend… it would be great to have this be a regular and thriving event.

  3. It is always good to see more fresh healthy produce available in the central district. However, judging from the presence of tropical fruits and out of season crops (like corn) this market does not appear to be a “farmers” market, which offer only local farm fresh produce from local growers. With that said, I think it is great that we have another source for healthy food here in the CD, and politics and ideologies side, this is still good news!

  4. this is a market i can get behind, the Madrona market seems to have an emphasis on prepared foods and higher-end products/prices more suited for those much more wealthy than the majority of people in the neighborhood. When i attended this market last week, i found it to be much more real and determined than the standard, pricey, unsustainable fare at the Madrona Market–i expect it to be more realistic than what we have here in the Grocery Outlet parking lot. Bring on Clean Greens!

  5. …on Sunday (6/13). Made a beeline for the produce but only the asparagus was locally grown, so we bought that. The vendor mentioned something about growing season in WA state and that there would be more offerings as time goes on.

Also bought some pastry that came from a bakery in Madrona (forget the name).

  6. The Clean Greens Farm & Market will have its Grand Opening from 10am-3pm on Saturday, June 26th (on 21st at Fir). I need to get out to the farm to see those baby goats while they’re still babies. :) http://www.cleangreensfarm.com/
