There are an alarming number of armed daylight robberies reported as of late, esp. near the Red Apple market or near 25th & Jackson. I used to bank at the WAMU at 23rd and Jackson, but now I feel like that would make me an alarming target. Does anyone have any insight into this recent uptick in activity?
A tip, if I may: Don’t carry a lot of cash and always keep photocopies (both sides) at home of all the important credit cards, IDs and other items in your wallet to make them easy to cancel and replace. Only carry what you MUST with you.
This is excellent advice, ALS. When I was injured in a “strong-arm robbery” about two years ago, the responding officers told me to not even carry a purse in this area.
ok, maybe people shouldn’t flash a lot of cash anywhere, but as citizens we have a right to walk and carry purses and go about our business. There should be outrage at the city if this is true that we are expected to not act ordinary. This should be a topic at the next East Precinct Crime Coalition Meeting.
By the way do the residents above WAMU ever call the police? Wherever, I walk I am aware of my surroundings, but this is not an area that should be that problematic. Ordinary citizens should be encouraged to walk and be ordinary.
Next EPCPC Meeting: Thursday, March 26, 2009, 6:30PM – 8PM at Seattle Vocational Institute, 2120 S Jackson St. Room 401
I know there’s been an uptick of crime in this area, but I work at the corner of 23rd and Jackson (directly next to the old WAMU) and stroll through this area regularly and have for the past two years. I’ve never had a problem, and I generally carry a messenger bag, laptop bag or other with me. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be a concern around it, but advice like ‘not even carry a purse in this area’ is, quite frankly, utter nonsense. Be smart, be aware of your surroundings, and call the police if you feel threatened, it seems there’s a patrol car never more than a minute away there.
Another one in daylight – the third one this week near 23 & Union? Please give us more info when available.
How many more meetings with no results or deliverables? How many more decades?
what more do you wanna know? 23rd and Union………………NUFF SAID.
I live a block away from 25th & Washington, so that gunpoint robbery was scary to read. Last night around seven there were two police cars apprehending guys who matched the description in front of the mini-mart at 26th & Yesler. I wonder if it was related?
That said, “two black males, one with black hoodie,” is hardly a unique descriptor around the CD. I passed another two people who matched that description a block later. I imagine being held up is scary, but the more identifying details a victim can remember, the better it is for both the police and the majority of non-offending citizens.
show yourself goon!!! Coward!
I don’t think a real Deuce8 would call themselves “goon.” That’s more likely some kneejerk troll’s idea of clever social commentary. Not helpful.
Congrats on the addition of the Twitter alerts. Very useful.
baby puff you show yourself you bitch. who the fuck are u?
You all should try to quite beefin on the internet. Poking kids with guns until they do something is not smart. Goon is a very regularly used terms for the street level bangers looking to put in work. In fact there is/was (haven’t seen them lately) a set called goon squad. I have heard kids from 28, union…, dale block and almost every other set.
