This forum went overtime but there were some great speakers from all walks of the community: longtime residents some of whom had lost family members to gang violence; new residents; drug addicts; former dealers; community activists and youth as young as 13.
Comments were succinct and gave a thorough picture of the overall problem of youth violence and gang activity in Seattle and the Central District primarily. Talk centered around the need for open communication, participation, and loving intervention. There were a few suggestions for community action but the next meeting will be for creating goals.
There was great listening going on and hopefully this first meet will bloom into an effective community effort.
