UPDATE: Scott McGowan, one of the organizers of the P-Patch, just let me know that they’re very close to their goal of $3,000, with only $250 left to go. Call call 206-329-2142 if you can pitch in a few bucks to make this community project happen!
If you’ve walked past 25th & Spring recently, you might have noticed a vacant corner lot with a sign announcing plans for a P-Patch. Led by the efforts of Scott MacGowan and Elliot Sun, a group of neighbors have organized to purchase the lot and make it a community resource for organic gardening.
So far the city has committed $172,000 towards the project, leaving only $3,000 left to be raised in the community. But time is of the essence since interest will start to accrue on the property after the first of January.
To help push them over the top, the project organizers are holding a raffle at 11pm on December 31st, 2007, at 1117 25th Ave. Here’s some of the prizes that are up for grabs:
And of course they’re also accepting donations, and have organized a non-profit 501(c)(3) to do so. So if you’re looking for additional tax deductions for 2007, this could be the perfect opportunity.
I know a lot of people in the neighborhood have been wanting to get a P-Patch going, and this looks like the perfect opportunity from a very well-organized group. To get involved or make a donation, you can call 206-329-2142 or email takutowers at hotmail dot com.
