Volunteer on a Crew
There are lots of ways to help out! We need volunteers who can do one or more of the following:

  • Scout trees ahead of time to see if the fruit is ripe (we need scouts especially in NE and Central Seattle neighborhoods)
  • Harvest at scheduled work parties or at an on-call basis
  • Provide garage space to store equipment (ladders, picking buckets and/or fruit)
  • Deliver fruit to food banks and meal programs

To get started, please fill out a volunteer application. We will be scheduling volunteer orientations later this month, so stay tuned.

  1. We will also be gathering fruit in the Colman Neighborhood for the fourth season. Most of that goes to St. Mary’s food bank.

We typically do harvests on either Tuesdays, Thursday, or Saturday…starting around August 1 though mid September and can always use a hand or two.

I would be more than happy to discuss how we have been doing this “micro-harvest” project with anyone else in the CD who interested in working in their neighborhood. We think it’s a great model, keeping our efforts limited to only about 24 blocks. We don’t get as much fruit as some of the larger awesome groups in town, but it is always neighbors picking fruit from neighbors with the food going right back into the neighborhood which has its own charm.
