Elliott Bay Seawall Project Open House

Elliott Bay Seawall Project – A seawall can be more than just a wall.

The Seattle Department of Transportation, in coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is exploring options to replace Seattle’s aging seawall. As we begin to define the project’s alternatives, we would like to hear from you!

In-person: Interactive open house

Date: Wednesday, January 19, 2011

Time: 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. (public drop in)

Location: The Seattle Aquarium, 1483 Alaskan Way (at Pike Street)

This is a kid-friendly event!

Join project staff at the Seattle Aquarium to take a virtual tour of options for the seawall, share your thoughts with the project team, and understand how the seawall project is coordinating with the Central Waterfront planning process.

The Elliott Bay Seawall Project is an important public safety project. The seawall supports and protects Seattle’s waterfront, including critical utilities, transportation corridors, recreation and tourist destinations, and thousands of businesses and homes. The seawall—built between 1916 and 1934—does not meet current earthquake standards and has deteriorated significantly over the last 90 years due to damage by gribbles and ship worms.
