Delivery driver robbed at gunpoint of pizza and cash on 22nd Ave

A lost delivery person was held up at gunpoint Monday night and robbed of cash and a cell phone — and the pizzas the driver was delivering. Here’s the SPD report on the incident:

On October 3rd, just before 10:00 pm, a pizza delivery driver was in the 500 Block of 22nd Avenue, looking for an address.  When he couldn’t find the address, he got out of his car to take a better look.  Three suspects, described as black males, approached him and one of them pointed a handgun at him.  The suspects robbed the victim of pizzas, cash and a cell phone.  The suspects then fled on foot, and the victim was able to run to a neighboring house and call 911.  Officers arrived quickly and set up containment for a canine track, but the suspects were not located.

In the past — and still, for some, in the present — residents in the Central District have been frustrated by delivery “redlining” that left areas out of service coverage for some local restaurants.

  1. At some point one of these young thugs needs to have a gun put in his face as he and his cohorts are held captive and hand over their identification. Given the rash of these events in recent weeks I am beginning to wonder if it’s initiation season. They certainly seem related.

  2. Probably right about it being initiation season. It really sucks that there has been no stop to this. I guess the politicians of Seattle are making money from drugs, robberies and the like so why stop it?

Maybe someday we will get Pagliacci to deliver here withour fear of these idiots.

  3. ——I would not want anyone to risk their life or the life of an armed robber over a pizza, and a bit of cash, and am just glad this delivery person was not hurt. When we write that someone needs to put a gun in the face of one of these robbers, I tend to get a bit nervious, and if this is necessary, would prefer that it at least be one of our trained local police officers, rather than by an potentially untrained and scared local. Any attempt to take the law into ones own hands, could easily escalate an otherwise minor robbery into something we do not need!

  4. “Maybe someday we will get Pagliacci to deliver here withour fear of these idiots.”

As long as shit like this happens, it would appear Pagliacci’s concerns are pretty well-founded. I don’t blame any delivery business for not wanting to deliver to the CD. They’re absolutely right, it’s too dangerous.

In neighborhoods like this, people waiting on food delivery should expect to wait outside for the driver; have them call when they’re close. Or buck it up and drive to go get it yourself. “Redlining” happens for a reason.

  5. yeah Chilo do you know where you are? you’re in the CD containment zone. get your head out of your ass. Go hang out in Greenwood. Uh, north of the ship canal or whatever. File a class action lawsuit.

  6. I lived on 29th and John in the early and mid 80’s and cab drivers would not bring me home on a Saturday night. They’d only go as far as 23rd and John, then I’d have to walk down the hill as they were afraid to enter the valley. Looks like not much has changed.

  7. Is there a way to get a better description of these thugs? ‘Black male’ is pretty vague. I am sure the pizza delivery person is pretty shaken up, but I would love a better description. Jacket? Hooded or not? Color of clothing? Shoes? Anything to help us remain vigilant and find these folks as well as protect ourselves.

  8. I say we need it! There is no such thing as a minor robery. Let’s turn guns on these thugs.

  9. So maybe cell phones have made location with phone # more difficult to trace. f you see every negative incident here as a pox on our neighborhood then all never will be well. What if every positive incident was a proof of good? Put your comments in perspective with other areas of the city if you are going to analyze all in this way. Yes, I had the same experience as “the more they stay the same” with cab drivers in the 70s and 80s. Eventually they recognized my address with the telephone # although may I used one every 6 months at the most. Now cabs use telephone, name and address for all areas and if you have called one before they will have a record, which really helps them.

  10. Why do all these stories end without anyone being arrested?!? This is all getting so rediculous!

  11. When we first moved to Madrona in 2006, I called to order some Italian food for delivery. The first thing they asked was if I lived in the CD. Being new at the time, I didn’t even know what the CD was. When I told them my house was in Madrona, they had no problem delivering. I later learned why I kept getting asked if I was in the CD each time I tried to order delivery.

  12. Thats right eyez, just keep you head in your ass. No reason to venture out of the CD, the whole city is just like your little “hood”. Do not even think of the word Lawyer, you would not know how to talk to one anyway. Just go to you crime meetings vent, go home and hope some scum does not, how do youu say…. “pop a cap in yo ass” on your way home. Yeah, that’s right, since your heads there it would not be too good for you.

  13. white folks always talking about the central district being a shit hole, yet they pay more to live here, move away if its to tough for you weak links, your central district apartment money will get you a house in Bellingham or Spokane.

where is your PD that you D-bags praise so much??? I’ve never once in my life, even in way bigger/violent cities that I have lived in, have seen so many unsolved crimes, don’t believe me? scroll through the list of local stories on all of the local news sites and tell me I’m wrong.

  14. P.S. No local business is afraid to deliver anything anywhere in our city, escape the fantasy world you folks live in.

  15. yo that’s bullcrap.

i’ve ordered delivery from lots of places for years and nobody has ever asked me about the CD or not delivered here.

you are full of shit. stop lying.

  16. not lieing.
YOu’re obviously just ordering different food.

There are other restaurants that don’t ask you “are you in the CD”? They simply just leave it off their delivery zone.

  17. Yes, GSG, you and your words are living proof why the CD is a “shithole” and why people complain.

  18. Deconstructed Civilization on an Al A Carte Menu

Ya’ll are running behind the times. Your antiquated social construct of laws defining sexuality as rape and the rest of this western/eastern religiopolicy is garbage.

The concept of the life that is brutish and short is now in vogue. Rape and thuggery is art and social simplicity done to perfection. Life is what you can take of it.

The CD is not a containment zone – it is the breeding ground of our next leap forward as free humans.

  19. Nice. Softies moving in the neighborhood constantly complaining but little do they realize that it used to be much worse. Cops didn’t care what happened in the CD until the lily whites moved in.

  20. That’s BS. The cops often hit a brick wall getting no cooperation from the neighborhood when they look for witnesses, or ask who saw something. That has something to do with it.

  21. I was going to say why don’t we call it a containment dome, because that sounds classier than a zone, you know?

But then that reminded me of that oil thing that blew up down in the gulf, and who wants to be associated with that?

How about calling it the fun zone? That might get people to come here!

  22. Strictly speaking, it’s neurotic self-important bullshit. With a big helping of drama queen. That’s how we roll in the zone.

At least they’re not making you listen to them read their own poetry out loud. That would be the worst kind of violence.

  23. yeah…then I’d wig out to the point of beating someone bloody– and we could call it “performance art”.

  24. Don’t forget Chernoble. Speaking of domes, I’ll show ya something. What would Roy Otis say?

  25. I stand firmly against both drama queens and concern trolls who overuse tacky cliches.

    Or,

You can only sing the same tune so many times before it becomes an ear worm

  26. grumbo are you retarded? “turn guns on these thugs”. go ahead, but if the thugs shoot up your house dont be sad. wait why am i saying this, you’re just being an internet tough guy.

  27. IVL – I belong to the Internet Vileness League. Jus doin my initiation now. Goin ta bust up the web society. You a PC PC addict? We gonna bust your Apple. Chump. Goin around bein dispiteful tward us?

  28. crimes like this don’t happen elsewhere in the city. it’s just here, in the central district. yep. that’s right. we live in a crime ridden neighborhood with “black males” robbing people. and because of this, poor us. we can’t get a $25 pizza delivered to us.

… but we do have a plethora of ethnic joints that offer way better food at way cheaper prices. and most likely — one’s right next to your house. (a little exercise to get your dinner by walking never hurt anyone)

..but you know, it’s shady going into them because your white ass will be the minority.

i’m sick of the rep this neighborhood gets and how often it’s rooted with racist views.

  29. Careful, eat it! You’re going against the catechism of The Containment Zone! How do you expect to wallow in Self-pity if you don’t sing with the choir?

  30. Sooo thighs, aka eyez, aka JR aka any other moronic initials you want to hide behind, glad your wallowing with the social cesspool and not in our singing choir of self pity. The smell of your crap would spoil our appetite for a real business district of resturants, shops and a robust urban social center rather than the shit hole you seem to defend. But then with your head up your ass, you seem to like being in a shit hole. Watch out, they like to “pop a cap in you ass” if you hang in the containment zone too long!

  31. Such a classy intelligent post, eyes! With people like you in “the zone”, it’s a wonder that the CD in not yet a world-renown literary salon, like Paris in the twenties.

Maybe you should speak for us at City Hall. I’m sure your inightful observations and well-thought-out positions will wow them!

  32. Well JR, thighs, sighs whatever you want to call yourself, can not spell, or is your anger causing you to miss the right keys? Anger management is probably something you need to look into.

  33. Eyes, it looks like you’re missing some keys yourself. I think you meant to say “can you not spell”, but you left out the “you”.

People living in glass houses shouldn’t throw rocks.

  34. “I tend to get a bit nervious, and if this is necessary, would prefer that it at least be one of our trained local police officers, rather than by an potentially untrained and scared local.”

Funfact the police only shoot about 50 rounds a year to qualify. I shoot 2-4000 rounds a year at least. Most citizens with CCWs are far more proficient, and better trained than the police. Ever notice when they shoot 72 times and hit the perp twice.

“Any attempt to take the law into ones own hands, could easily escalate an otherwise minor robbery into something we do not need!”

What? Like a dead thug, and a problem solved rather than slapping those wrist and sending them back on the street.

  35. I think the point was that you were busting somebody for doing something that you were doing yourself in that very same post. That’s sort of hypocritical of you, don’t you think?

(You know that you don’t always have to have the last word on everything, don’t you?)

  36. I am feeling bad about the misspellings and missed punctuation and decided to repost. So maybe cell phones have made location with phone # more difficult to trace. If you see every negative incident here as a pox on our neighborhood then all never will be well. What if every positive incident was a proof of good? Put your comments in perspective with other areas of the city if you are going to analyze all in this way. Yes, I had the same experience as “the more they stay the same” with cab drivers in the 70s and 80s. Eventually they recognized my address with the telephone # even though maybe I called one every 6 months at the most. Now cabs use telephone #s, name and address for all areas, and if you have called one before they will have a record, which really helps them.

  37. Um. The message didn’t change at all, so, why? Spelling guilt? I think we should irradicate petty guilt.

  38. Thats right focus your mindless sarcasm on me instead of any comments of substance concerning the social cesspool that is the containment zone known as the CD.
Filtering down reality does not make the issues go away. Perhaps you have something to gain?

  39. The lack of descriptions always frustrate me, but honestly, knowing they were wearing black hooded sweatshirts or white and red Nikes wouldn’t help much. We need details, and suspect sketches by the police. Do they bother to have those sketches done anymore if it doesn’t involve sexual assault? I would like to see them make a comeback.

  40. So you want a “real business district of resturants, shops and a robust urban social center” and think the neighborhood YOU LIVE IN is “a shit hole”. You want to stay and fight cuz it’s a containment zone, a F*#@ING cesspool and that pisses you off. And lots of your neighbors have their moronic heads up their asses which seems to both please you and agitate you.

Have you considered moving to a neighborhood that doesn’t require a class action law suit and the removal of heads from asses to be up to your standards? Why stay here and change the containment zone when you could be living where you want and commenting on that neighborhood blog???

  41. that a serious criminal act (and the reporting thereof) has taken on such a lame banter. Ug. exchange emails and take it somewhere else….I love CDN but this is ridiculous! I can go on and on about delivery to the CD, as a a former 11 year resident AND current business owner….but….I would hate for things to degrade any further….

  42. We should go back to the days when we can’t get pizza deliverry. Pizza is the #2 cause of your fat butt – Right? Let’s send pizza man packing to some other neighborhood.

  43. They will not Liz, we are in a containment zone! If this was in another north end neighborhood it would be prime news with police following up in the media. How many time do I have to say it.

  44. No, not all my neighbors have ” their as heads up their ass holes” just you and your many initials. To quote another poster, STOP STALKING!

  45. I am with you judkinsbum except if we are to support up and coming businesses we would allow blood, crips, and the ever famous BGD pizza deliver shops delivering crack and meat toppings on their pizzasn to include jerked meat that they killed.
    Eat what you kill!
    Yummm. ;)

  46. Anyone notice how much blue has been moving into the upper CD. The red turf has been pushed to 20th and I think the will lose 23rd by 2012.

  47. I think Seattle should annex White Center just to give the containment zone some competition.

  48. I like your thinking on that. The southern containment zone! It makes the whole city sound more regal. Like a real big city. Detroit has a huge southern containment zone. Seattle has puny little CD and most of that comprises Leschi and Madrona. We will never be a great city with out a bigger shit hole. CD is a crummy little half shit hole. Man I feel like a dupe.

  49. We can remove the crime by demanding that the containment zone policy is over. And the policy can only change with a legal challenge in court. Middle class african americans tried to do this in the 1970’s and Mayor Royer fought back. Those who are still here remember “Chicken Charlie” when the Plum Park Community Council let a live chicken loose in at a council meeting. Then there was Jim Diers, former head of the Dept. of Neighborhoods, who, with others mailed a packe=age with used needles and condoms to the city council members. There is a long history that confirms the containment zone issue, but a short narrow mind to agressivly attack it, unless there is something to gain by bringing down real estate prces more?

  50. Simple-minded theatrics by “leaders”, coupled with a community’s inability or unwillingness to cooperate with police, is the surest way to get written off by the powers that be.

The last “community leader” to get any press was Omari Tahir-Garrett when he had a tantrum about the NWAAM – and he only got what he did because he had slugged the mayor with a bullhorn. They were probably hoping for a repeat.

It sounds as if any “containment zone” may be of the neighborhood’s own making,
