Madison will be closed at MLK September 26-30

Be ready for a complete closure of E Madison St near MLK/28th Ave E next week as Seattle Public Utilities repaves the road. Work is expected to start the morning of September 26 and last all week. MLK and 28th Ave E will also be closed for one block on either side of Madison.

The work is part of the Madison Valley Stormwater Project, which passed the 75 percent completion mark earlier this month. The project is on schedule to be completed by the end of the year.

From SDOT:

Seattle Public Utilities plans to replace temporary pavement on East Madison Street at 28

th Avenue East next week, September 26-30, following work on the local drainage system for the Madison Valley Stormwater Project. Also, Martin Luther King, Jr. Way East and 28th Avenue East will be closed for one block on each side of East Madison Street. A detour around the work area for this final, permanent paving will be in place 24-hours-a day from September 26 to September 30.

The crews plan to work from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, and expect to reopen the street by 5 p.m. on Friday, September 30. On-street parking will be restricted in the work area and along the detour route.

  1. Any word on how this will impact the 11 bus route? I’ll check the online info but wondered if there was any other word?

  2. I did receive an email from Metro about the rerouting of the 11 but didn’t pay attention because I’ll not be bussing it next week. Check online for the route/stops

  3. Rerouting eastbound onto Arthur Pl that not too long ago was switched to one way in the westbound direction? Shouldn’t cause any confusion, not at all, especially with the big One Way signs still sporting the “this is new” orange squares.

  4. On Monday, September 26 from approximately 6:00 AM through Friday, September 30 at about 9:00 AM; Route 11 will be rerouted off of E Madison St at 28th Av E, due to construction.

During this time, Route 11 heading toward downtown Seattle will travel instead via 28th Av E, E Mercer St, 27th Av E and E Madison St to its regular route.

Heading toward Madison Park, Route 11 will travel instead via 27th Av E, E Arthur Pl, 28 Av E and E Madison St to its regular route.
