Garfield Community Center hosts Annual Holiday Party – Toy Donations Needed!

This Friday, December 10

th is the Annual Holiday party at Garfield Community Center, 6:30-8pm. This is one of many parties held around the city at Seattle Parks and Recreation Community Centers.

Over 200 families have pre-registered to receive gifts at Garfield Community Center alone, a sure sign of the bad economic times.  Seattle Parks and Recreation are holding a Toy Drive to help get enough gifts for the kids. This is the 3

rd year in a row they have done their own drive, a result of Toys for Tots running out of gifts back in 2008.

Want to help? It’s not too late to donate toys! Remember to support your local toy stores, central district has one on 12

th and Union; Izzilla. Toy and monetary donations are being accepted at all Parks and Recreation Community Centers.  You can also still sign up to volunteer. Call 684-4559 or email [email protected]. Please register to volunteer by this Thursday at 9pm.

  1. I heard that they are in need of a lot more gifts. Any idea what type of gifts are needed? I’d like to give something but don’t know what age groups are included.

  2. There are kids of all ages that use the community center. I bought from babies to preteens. To stretch you dollar further and be able to purchase toys with diversity, Walgreens is having a sale on toys where if you buy 2 for 11.98, you get a third free so that’s $4 per toy. They have great stuff for all ages. The staff at Garfield Community Center does such a great job serving the children of this community and their efforts with the Holiday Party is no exception.

  3. We are getting closer to having the toys we need. So much thanks goes out to those that have donated! Toys are still needed for ages 5-11. If you want a truly heart warming experience, come help organize all the toys and give them out. Volunteers can come anytime between 3pm and 5pm, and stay as late as you like.

  4. I just wanted to thank everyone that donated. We had just enough toys to give out to the 200+ kids that attended our Holiday Party. Thanks for being such a supportive community. A special thanks goes out to a donor who brought 7 boxes full of toys, and saved the day!!!
