Block party planning – here’s 18 – tell us about yours

Tuesday is the big citywide Night Out event, where neighbors block of a street, get festive with food and conversation, and get to know everyone around them.

We know about six so far:

  • Hiawatha Place – The folks down on Hiawatha appear to be going all-out, with an appearance by Double Dutch Empire, potluch food, art, badminton, and biking. At 843 Hiawatha Place, 5:30pm – 8:30pm.
  • Jackson Place – St. Peter’s Episcopal Parish is the spot with BBQ, drinks, entertainment, and a bouncy house for the wee ones. Starts at 5:30pm at 1610 S. King St.
  • Garfield – kjazz claims one the longest-running Night Out events in Seattle, with kid entertainment and potluck food. Find it at 25th & Spruce, from 6pm – 9pm.
  • 25th & Spring – The tight-knit community around the Spring St. P-Patch always do it up right on Night Out. Find them in the 900 block of 25th Ave.
  • 27th & Spring – The blockwatch there got a $250 grant from the city to do Night Out in style, and are planning food, music, and kids games for all ages.
  • 21st & Union – Our twitter buddy LizWas let us know about a party for the 3 blocks on 21st Ave between Union and Cherry. It’ll be located at 21st & Union, from 6pm-9pm.
  • 32nd & Charles – Potluck, BBQ, and Hoola Hoopage, starting at 6:30pm
  • 21st & James – Free self-defense class from 7-star women’s Kung Fu
  • Leschi – Probably the best view of all block parties, from the back porch of the Central Area Senior Center at 500 30th Ave S., 6:30pm – 9pm.
  • 19th & Union – Potluck party
  • 300 30th Ave S – BBQ, potluck, and firepit with marshmallow roasting & s’mores
  • 27th & Denny – Bouncy house!
  • 2600 S. Washington
  • 24th & Marion – Potluck

Have a party that’s not listed? Let us know in the comments below and we’ll add it to our map.

  3. Hey CD Neighbors!

We’re also welcoming the residents of nearby blocks to join us – north of Union, and surrounding blocks on 20th-24th if you want to be a part of it too! It’s a potluck so please bring a dish to share. We’re also trying to cut down on waste by bringing our own plates and cups. Hope to see you there! You can follow me @LizWas if you want to learn more. Thanks! :)

  4. we’re hosting a night out potluck party in our yard and parking spaces on 19th (just north of union).

  5. We will close the street from Main to Jackson-party in middle of the block (same location as last 5 years).
We’ll have a bbq & potluck along with a firepit for marshmallow roasting & s’mores.

  6. The last couple years one of our neighbors has rented one of thse big blow things for kids to jump around inside. Possible live music and kids activities too. Please join us!

  7. There will be one in the 2600 block of S. Washington as well. I’m not the organizer so I’m a little light on details, I just saw the signs. Looking forward to it!

  8. Glad someone is coming! I’ve been too distracted to do more than post a few signs this year, but we’ve had a good turn-out the past few years. Anyone between Jackson & Yesler, MLK & 23rd (or further if you care) is welcome. We’ll have a grill for whatever you bring.

  9. These all sound great and are near me. I feel like the prettiest girl at the dance. ;-)

    … Is that weird?

  10. We got an invite on our door to a potluck on 24th Avenue (1500 block), between E. Pine and E. Pike. We’re planning to attend – hope other neighbors are as well!

    6:30-10pm

It says to “bring your family and friends, bring your favorite thing for potluck and bring your party hat”

They will have condiments and a grill ready so feel free to bring meat/hotdog to grill.

    See you there!

  11. 1800 block of 29th Ave (b/w Denny and Howell): We’ll have a grill going, potluck (including homemade jambalaya, potato salad, and sweets!), balloons and facepainting for the kids. Plus info on the MLK Community Center (www.mlkcommunitycenter.org), efforts for playground equipment at William Grose Park, etc. Hope to see neighbors there–our 5th year!
