Last week we talked about the new pedestrian improvements coming to MLK on each corner of Powell Barnett Park. Construction was scheduled to start today, but we found no sign of activity at the site this morning when we walked over to get some photos.
And now a very timely press release has popped into our inbox:
A contractor working for the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) has rescheduled the start date, now to begin
approximately May 27, for constructing pedestrian improvements on Martin Luther King, Jr. Way adjacent to Powell Barnett Park.Construction is now estimated to take two to three weeks (shortened from the original three to four weeks). On-street parking will be restricted in the construction area.
Be prepared for traffic disruptions once it starts in two weeks.
In other Powell Barnett news, the wading pool will not be operating this summer.
Sounds like a “drain cover safety” issue means that 11 of Seattle’s 25 wading pools will be closed this summer. The spray features at Pratt and Miller will be open beginning May 23.
