Construction started this morning on a project to tame the traffic on the MLK mini-freeway that runs past Powell Barnett Park.
Crews are now working on the southern end of the park at the intersection with Alder, breaking up the concrete to install a 25-foot wide raised crosswalk to provide motorists a visual and tactile reminder to slow down and watch for pedestrians. They’ll soon be starting on another project at the north end of the park to provide a median where pedestrians can stand in while waiting for one lane of traffic to clear.
Expect traffic delays during the day until the projects are finished, which is expected to take two to three weeks.
