Piney Ridge Opens Tonight at Langston Hughes

Looking for some weekend entertainment within walking distance of your front door?  Tonight the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center is kicking off their production of Piney Ridge, the award-winning play about racial tension one hundred years ago in Virginia.

Partly based on real-life events, the full-length piece centers on a race riot in the neighboring town of Thaxton, Virginia, which has many of the black and white residents of Piney Ridge on edge, and when a white girl from a neighboring sharecropping farm is attacked, all of the communities’ worst fears and racial tensions come bubbling to the surface.

The play runs through April 5th, with shows at 7:30pm on Friday and Saturdays, and a 3:00pm matinee on Sundays.

Advance tickets are available for $15 at  http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/36184
