Congrats to the Garfield High School boy’s basketball team who defeated Foss in the semifinals last night, advancing to the state championship game tonight. They ended up 23 points ahead of Tacoma’s Foss team, with a score of 69-46(!).
The match-up in the final is against Federal Way, who has a 21-2 record this season, vs. Garfield’s 20-3. It starts at 9pm at the Tacoma Dome, and will be broadcast pay-per-view online here.
According to celebrategarfield.org, Garfield basketball teams have won the state championship 11 times since 1949. Stay tuned tonight to see if they can make it 12.
Update: The final score is Federal Way 62, Garfield 54. They had a great season and a great run in the tournament. It’s cool to see a neighborhood team get so far.
This is wonderful. After all the drama that has happened in our community I feel that this is what the students at Garfield need, a little positive energy. Congratulations to them and good luck! I’ll be listening to the game.
for the update.
