Union Market robbed again — Suspect escapes after knifepoint hold-up

The Union Market was robbed by a man at knifepoint Saturday night. According to the SPD report on the hold-up, a man entered the store near 21st and E Union just after 10 PM armed with a knife. The man made off with cash and was last seen heading south from the area. Nobody was injured, SPD reports. A search for the suspect was not successful. He was described as a black male, 25-30, 5′ 9″ with dark complexion, wearing a black cap, grey hoodie and dark jeans.

Last summer, two men were tracked to a home just off 19th Ave and arrested after an armed robbery at the market.

  1. I am very sorry to hear that this happened to the Union Market. We were home, not far from the store, at the time and had no idea that anything had happened there. Was the suspect driving, on foot, or using some other form of transportation?

  2. Sunday morning I awoke to belligerent yelling and sirens. A total of 7 cop cars, a fire department medic truck and an ambulance ended up at the NW corner of 21st & Union, where police had a suspect handcuffed on the ground. He did NOT fit the description of the armed robber from the night before. I actually was live Tweeting it at the time – it was quite a lively little play by play. Eventually the EMTs strapped him to a stretcher and carted him away in the ambulance, but not until he had screamed a lot of obscenities and racial slurs. Tough weekend for 21st & Union. :(
