Big news today for the vacant corner of 23rd & Union. The developer's request for a rezone from the current 40 foot height limit to a 65 foot limit has been conditionally approved by the Director of the Department of Planning and Development.

The next step is a meeting with the Hearing Examiner, scheduled for June 16th at 1:30pm. Public comments will be taken and any appeals will be heard during that meeting.

You can also send written comments through 6/16, mailed to
City of Seattle
Hearing Examiner
P.O. Box 94729
Seattle, WA 98124-4729

I'm not clear on what steps will still remain after the public hearing, but I've got a call in to Jim Mueller, the developer, to get some more information on that. I'll update this story when I learn some more.

It's a quasi-judicial process, so testimony will be welcome (I expect) on both sides of the issue.

They and City Council ESPECIALLY listen to opinions of owners of adjoining or really close by, therefore affected, properties. So, if you have an opinion, might want to see if those folks agree and get it in writing.

yeah, this is really great news, if we don't get higher densities in these odd lots, we'll never get greener, more sustainable neighborhoods.
