Hi,
I am new here but have been reading for quite some time. It is currently Sunday evening at 12:30 A.M. There has been a very loud party going on at a house on the South side of Union between 24th & 25th. I called it into 911 first at 11:00 P.M. exactly, then 11:35 P.M. and a third time at 12:10 A.M. I am getting absolutely nowhere with this. I am about a full block away from the offending “party house”. Has anyone else heard this? Called it in? There is no way I am the only person bothered by this….
I am a little disappointed in the lack of response from the SPD. I mentioned this to the 911 operator and was told that this is a low priority. I get that, but this started at 11:00 P.M., I made three calls over and hour and a half and still nothing. What is the story?? Do I have to say the word “gunshots” to get someone to notice this issue since it is in this area??
Yes, I am frustrated and no I would not make up a story of gunshots to get my issue resolved…..

check out one of Scott’s previous posts: http://feeds.centraldistrictnews.com/2008/01/03/911-usage: very useful information. i plugged the numbers into my cell phone so i have them when i need them in the event that i need them.
Listen Frank. I can tell that you’re frustrated. God knows we can all get a little testy when we don’t get enough sleep, but summer is ending and folks are just trying to enjoy the last few weekends before constant rain sets in. I’m sure your neighbors were loud and on a Sunday night, that certainly was a little rude. But Frank… three calls to the police!?
You say that you’ve been reading this blog for some time now. If you have, you’d know that the last couple of years here have been plagued with gang activity, drug crimes and gun violence. You should also know that the city, the police and community leaders have stepped up in an attempt to solve these problems. I’m hopeful and I think many of the other readers here are hopeful that good things will come of this. Only time will tell.
My advice to you Frank is to chill and let these little things slide. The police are out there doing what they can and I for one, have found their response to be excellent when response is truly needed.
Take care!
i notice parties on sundays a lot in the neighborhood and i think some of that is due to the fact that many of our neighbors work in the service industry and Sunday is the night they party. the green bunker on MLK and Union had Sunday night parties every Sunday for several months and we just turned the fan on high, but it was a definite party.
Definitely use the non-emergency number or look up the East Precinct number (at night it usually rolls over to the non-emergency number) because calling 911 when it is not a fire or a life threatening emergency will get you nowhere…
Dealing with nearby college students who usually aren’t doing anything wrong but are just loud, here’s my advice:
Buy a big loud fan and use the white noise to drown it out. It works and helps you keep cool at the same time :)
They’re cheap and they work
We had the tv on, doors closed and could hear the thumping of the music. Seriously??? That loud and far enough away isn’t right. I don’t agree with rolling over with the service industry having a night off. Does that mean I can blast NPR at 6:30 am because that’s my schedule and they can turn on a fan or use ear plugs? No.
I think it’s a matter of courtesy. Have fun, enjoy your youth (didn’t we all ;) but realize that not everyone keeps the same schedule, be respectful of others and (as Mr. Fulghum would say) hold hands when crossing the street. I am a realist and know that none of this works and that next Sunday there will be the same house, with the same people and the same level of noise.
Thanks for listening.
I would like to clarify that this was coming from a house that is not lived in and is used only for parties.
911 is the number that the City of Seattle WANTS you to use for EVERYTHING and NOT the 625-5011 as we used to use. I have met with (yuck) Greg Nickels and he has reiterated that directly to me in person when discussing issues around my place of business which is also in Seattle.
I have lived in the area for 40 years. Is that enough? Maybe not. My grandparents were born in Seattle all from 1904-1908. Will that suffice?
The loud parties on a Sunday night are unacceptable; this is not a dorm in Pullman.

Maybe there was no immediate response because it was not an emergency and I’m sure the police have lots of work on their hands to tend to then a loud party.
I do not hate cops. I LOVE seeing a sky blue Crown Vic drive down my street!!! I pay for them dearly, as do all of us and seeing them patrolling the area and doing a roundup at Thompson’s is a beautiful, beautiful sight. They need to tend to the little stuff as well, especially after an hour and a half. I don’t hate cops missy b, I love them!! :)

you sound hella gay
I have been through this kind of thing twice in this area over the past 15 years. Rather than arguing about whether the noise is to loud or not (loud noise after 10 PM in a residential area is illegal), or if a person should call 911 versus the East Precinct, I will just say that in each case I or a neighbor called the East Precinct starting exactly at 10 PM until the cops showed up, and soon the loud noise ended permanently. Took a few weeks of doing it over again.
Is this not just complacency and thereby condoning such behavior?
Is this the best you can do? Calling someone “hella gay”? I think we have an infultrater here from the South Park region.
Oh and BTW, the parties did not end. They just do not blast everyone out of their homes.
I hope there’s a party there this weekend – it sounds fun! Crank it up!
Hellacool!!!
Are you in Jr. high school by chance, Micky?
Three (on two three)Seattle Police cars showed up in broad daylight here at the UmojaFest Peace Center on 24th E. Spring. PROBLEM? NOISE COMPLAIT FROM NEIGHBOR? The noise was a KUOW political interview of Mayor candidates coming from inside UmojaFest Peace Center (around 4pm). Three Seattle Police cars stayed for over 15 minutes after being told to come back after 10 pm???? Omari
