Painting Stencils at Hopscotch Detroit

Join us as we use our giant stencils, flour chalk and paint a couple blocks in the CD with a prototype to figure out the best and quickest way to get our 1.8 mile course ready for June 1st!

We’ll be working through the problems, so we know what it will actually be like to lay down a 1.8 mile course! FUN!

++++++
Can’t make the practice day? Remember Hopscotch CD happens on June 1st! 1.8 miles of fun including the following:

Jackson End (between 28th and 20th)

  • Seattle Girls Schools and Leschi Community Council are doing a breakfast table plus a fun play project at Flo Ware Park
  • Fire Station 6 may be doing to do something fun, like an open house
  • Coleman Neighborhood Association is having a big book sale in the Red Apple Parking Lot to raise money for neighborhood improvements
  • Stop in and hug someone in the Franz Bakery Outlet. Franz donated hundreds of pounds of flour, corn starch, and sugar to make the hopscotch path itself possible!
  • Giddens School and Pomegranate Center are building an amazing neighborhood book sharing kiosk in Pratt’s parking lot at 20th and Jackson
  • A pop band (with lots of horns and drums I hear) will be playing in front of a café at 20th and Jackson.

Pratt Park area (20th and Yesler) Continue reading

Come help us scope out the proposed route for the 1.8 mile hopscotch course across the CD! We’ll be meeting up at Flo Ware Park on 28th and Jackson and walking over have some beer and food at the Neighbor Lady on 23rd and Union.

http://www.facebook.com/events/104284063079915/

Can’t make the walk but getting curious about how you can lend a hand?

Live or work on the route?

WE NEED BLOCK CAPTAINS!
Block Captains will be the neighborhood masters of fun! You’ll be passing out chalk, chatting with your neighbors and helping people continue on their way along the course.

HOST A GARAGE SALE! MAKE A LEMONADE STAND!
Are you kidding? No way! Maybe you don’t hopscotch and can’t stand making chalk drawings..but you could take advantage of all the folks out the street to clean out your stuff and make a bit of money. We’ll be listing ALL EVENTS along the route on our upcoming website so why not? This is also a great opportunity for community organizations to do a little fundraising.

HELP US FIGURE OUT PARTNERSHIPS and MORE FUN!
We don’t know everyone yet on the route, but we’d love to see partnerships and mentoring happening all along the route, so if you are involved in school, social organization, church in the neighborhood and aren’t on the route but want to participate, let’s figure out how we can get your paired up with activities on the route! We’re looking for people and group who want to organize games and other FUN events. Have a giant chess set? Have lots of smaller ones and tables to host some chess? Like dodge ball? Know how to play four square? Are you on a jump rope team? We are looking for you!

As always, stay in the know with the latest news on Hopscotch CD and get in touch with us at Jackson Commons. It’s on Facebook, Twitter, and the Web. Or drop us an email at jacksoncommons@gmail.com.

We’ll certainly being having a few meetings to get this planned, so if you can’t make tomorrow night, there will be lots of opportunities to get involved. Email for meeting address: Jacksoncommons@gmail.com or just send us your ideas.

As always: Jackson Commons is on Facebook at Jackson Commons Seattle and on Twitter @JacksonCommons. We’re big proponents that the best way to work together on the many hard problems in our neighborhood is to find ways to also have fun together. Did you see the pictures from our first Festival of Lights in magical Judkins Park? More of that and less shootings we say. More fun, please! Continue reading
