This Saturday’s informal drop in community meeting hosted by School Board Member Kay Smith-Blum presents an excellent opportunity to address the many remaining issues around local student assignments at both the elementary and middle school levels. Since the levy election will be over, this is will be the time that the District will begin serious discussions around the assignment areas and capacity management, along with the design of Meany as a middle school. What are the capacity issues in the Central Area? What is it that the community wants in middle schools? How will the assignment areas for Meany and Washington be determined? The Central District will be profoundly affected by the decisions made on these issues.

We’d love to ask her some questions but the timing of the meeting over mid-winter break is tough. Hopefully there will be some more discussions scheduled soon.
You should email her regarding the timing and request follow up meetings. I noticed that some others for this weekend were cancelled or postponed. Thank you for posting about this conflic/
In fact, I notice that DeBell moved his to the following weekend. Hopefully some families will be able to make this one.
