Each year, thousands of families around the Pacific Northwest find themselves struggling to pay the bills and put sufficient food on the table. When the necessities are taken care of, there is little or no money to buy Christmas presents for the children. For the fourth year, Mount Zion Baptist Church expects to see many of those struggling families at the Christmas “Day of Caring” on Saturday, December 15, 2012.  Last year, nearly 1,200 children and teens from around the greater Seattle area were served making this event one of the biggest toy and gift giveaways in the region.

Rev. Aaron Williams, Senior Pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church says it is always inspiring to see the church volunteers and community pull together to make this a brighter time for families, “The Christmas season can be a very stressful time of year for many who struggle to make ends meet. Our mission is to fill the gap by giving to those in need in the community.” Williams added, “Most exciting will be the opportunity for each child to select brand new Christmas toys!” In addition to those new toys, food, gently used clothing, toiletries and small household items will be provided for all ages.

Despite the slowly recovering economy, Christmas “Day of Caring” organizers are expecting a large crowd and very busy day of spreading Christmas joy.  When the doors open at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, more than 100 volunteers will be standing by to assist, including personal shoppers, gift wrappers, and Spanish translators. Visitors will also be served lunch and entertained by Mount Zion’s choirs, musicians, actors and dancers.

There is still time to donate toys and gifts for teens. Donations may be delivered to Mount Zion Baptist Church 9am-5pm until Friday, December 14.
