Backyard Barter and Seattle Farm Co-op Host Barter and Plant Exchange

On Sunday, April 15th from 12:30pm to 3pm community members interested in bartering can bring produce, eggs, honey, seeds, plants, tools, canned goods, promises of a helping hand in the kitchen or garden, and mentoring skills to trade with their neighbors. The only rules are no money and have fun. The barter will be taking place at the Seattle Farm Co-op located at 1817 S Jackson St (please enter from the back alley). This is an indoor/outdoor space so attendees should dress for the weather. In addition to the barter, this event will also include a plant exchange and baked goodies potluck. Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite cookies, brownies or goodies to share. For more information, or to RSVP, email [email protected] or call 206-790-5144.

This event is the sixth in a series of bartering events hosted by the group Backyard Barter. Backyard Barter was formed by Ballard residents with a desire to build community while helping to encourage neighbors to grow and share food and skills. The Backyard Barter Project is funded through a Small and Simple Matching Grant through the Department of Neighborhoods and is a project of Seattle Tilth.

In addition to monthly in-person bartering events, Backyard Barter hosts a website (www.backyardbarter.org ) that barterers can use to coordinate and trade with their neighbors all year round. The site allows individuals to describe what they have to share, learn from each other and arrange bartering relationships with their neighbors.

  1. I love the idea, unfortunately I don’t live anywhere near Seattle. I tried to organize such events in the past but they always failed, which is why I started bartering online. I really like barterquest.com because they let you trade goods, services and real estate.
