Seattle, WA, December 15, 2011:  More than 1,000 children and teens, lots of gifts and tons of smiles – all on one day – The Christmas “Day of Caring” is one of the most wonderful times of the year for dozens of volunteers from Mount Zion Baptist Church and Central Area Motivation Program (C.A.M.P.) and the community – but especially for the families they will help.

Hundreds of local families are once again expected at Mount Zion Baptist Church on Saturday, December 17 for the Third Annual Christmas “Day of Caring” Toy Giveaway – one of the largest toy giveaways in the region.  They will be looking for help in making Christmas special for their children – help by way of a toy or two, new or gently used clothing and household items, a healthy lunch and topped by fun and entertainment.

Giveaway organizer, Leslyn Petitt says she is confident the community will come thru as it does every year, but the sooner, the better, “Each year, we are astounded at the outpouring of love and generosity that helps us provide toys and gifts to more than 1,000 children and youth. We will accept the donations at any time, but people would be surprised at how much work it takes to sort and count the toys to be sure we have enough. The last thing we want to do is turn any child away empty-handed.”  Petitt added, “I encourage everyone to donate what they can now so we have time to make sure each and every child and teen goes home with a special gift.”

Petitt is appealing to the community and local businesses to share in the Christmas spirit.  Monetary, toy and gift donations for children ages birth to 18 are being accepted from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. thru Friday, December 16 at Mount Zion Baptist Church. Yes, some last minute donors have been known to appear in the “Nick” of time on the Day of Caring. Those donations certainly will be welcomed.
