Report of shots fired near 24th and Cherry — UPDATE: road rage

We don’t have many details yet, but there has been a report of shots fired near 24th and Cherry. Police are looking for a four-door sedan with a black female driver in her early 20s with a weave. They believe the alleged shooter was a light-skinned black male with braids sitting in the rear driver’s side seat of the vehicle.

Seattle Crime reports that the white suspect vehicle may have been a Monte Carlo and apparently opened fire on another vehicle on the street around 5:15 p.m.

Police have not reported any injuries in the incident. We will update as we learn more.

Police responded to reports of shots fired yesterday at the same location. No word yet if the incidents are related.

  1. Actually, the shots today (thurs) were fired between Marion and Spring, not Cherry.

  2. I grew up in the central and the kids have no role models and its sad i remember riding my bike till midnight as a teen and that was not that long ago

  3. KIRO and KOMO were all stating 24th & Cherry too. Either way – too close to home and very sad. :(

  4. I know everybody is curious about the victim’s race. Was the victim white, black or other?

  5. I saw the cops talking to a black lady and checking out her car but what difference does it make?

  6. may i ask your age? i grew up in the cd as well, and back then it was a lot worst then it is now!….that’s why it concerns me the way things are looking now! like i said, Ive seen it before…its going to be a “dangerous” summer! God forbid! and by the way i’m 34

  7. Add one more thing to the list of things you can’t do in the CD: if someone parks in the middle of a street at rush hour, don’t honk at them or they might chase you more than a mile and try to kill you.

  8. Would you say it was three feet from Marion or more like six feet from Spring? North, south? Kind of north-by-south?

  9. I’m curious as to what’s already on your “can’t do” list for the neighborhood.

But if your going to limit your driving behaviors here in the neighborhood, you might want to consider also doing so in Northgate, Ballard, Interbay, SODO, West Seattle, Redmond, Olympia, Shoreline, Bellevue, and a slew of other areas as well. And definitely avoid the freeways around here. Road rage is hardly a CD problem. It extends around the region as well as the entire country.

  10. You’re right about road rage being a problem anywhere, but sitting in your car blocking traffic like that is something I see way more around the CD than anywhere else in the city. Well, actually people stopping in the middle of the road happens everywhere, but here certain people don’t care to move when someone comes up behind them.

  11. Ok – this happens to me all the time in the CD. I am white. And yes, each time it happens, its some black folk who see someone they know and decide to get neighborly. I really don’t mind waiting while people say hi. I think its the sign of a good neighborhood, and when everyone is smiling and the people in question are aware you’re behind them and give you a wave as if to say ‘ hey there we see you, we’ll be done saying hi in a minute,’ then everything is cool and you feel like you’re living in a community, and you get the warm fuzzies.

Unfortunately, there is a flip side to this, when the people stopped in the street are well aware that you’re behind them, make no acknowledgment of your presence, or if they do, do so in a way that makes it clear that it is your fault for interrupting them. And then, after an amount of time has passed and you give a little honk, as there is clearly an empty area of curb the person in question could pull into to continue the conversation, they drive off, giving you the finger, or if they’re facing you, shouting at you pretty much anything in the book. I don’t think these people’s mothers would be proud of them.

  12. these 2 folks in the monte carlo have a fine future ahead of them.

btw, let’s learn the difference between all of our late 70s and early 80s cars and modern ones. its not hard. everyone in the CD should take the time to google Monte Carlo, Caprice and Cadillac and get to know these. BMW?? no comparison!

coincidence?? from Seattle Times – “According to police, the man, the boy and another teen stopped their white Cadillac in front of a group of three strangers in the 1800 block of Minor Avenue after they heard the group laughing at them for driving erratically. The three got out of the Cadillac and threatened to shoot the strangers before driving off. “
