A note from Tom, new CD News editor

Tom last summer (note the short sleeves and sun)

Hello, Central District News readers. My name is Tom Fucoloro, the new editor of this wonderful neighborhood news site. I have been writing for the site for a couple months while it has worked to find a new stride after the parting of our beloved Scott, and I have loved every bit of it. I am excited to get more closely involved with day-to-day operations and spend more time getting to know even more of the creative and passionate people who live in our neighborhood. Justin will still be helping out, but he will now be able to focus more on CHS.

A little bit about me: I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, where I started a record company with some high school friends called Big Muddy Records (after 9 records, company’s official status is now “Gone Fishin'”). I went to Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois. I didn’t know it at the time, but Galesburg is a few miles north of the former site of Cherry Grove, the home of Arthur Denny and folks who would journey west and found this city. I guess I followed them here without even realizing it.

After college, I lived in Kansas City for a few months, writing feature stories as an intern at the Kansas City Star. Then I moved to Denver, then finally to Seattle. I co-wrote an environmentalist rock opera called The Lonely Kazoo: A Synthetic Journey to Heaven, which was performed at the Fremont Abbey in August. I ride a bicycle as my primary way of getting around town, and I am the founder and editor of Seattle Bike Blog.

I live near 20th and Union. My partner Kelli teaches yoga at Garfield Community Center twice a week, and I am always amazed by the dedication and energy of the people who make the GCC an important and unique neighborhood anchor.

I am here to serve the community, so keep sending tips, questions, story ideas and feedback to [email protected] or you can contact me directly at [email protected]. If you are a Twitter user, I will be following the @CDNews account. Facebook? Well, I’ll try to keep up with that, too. Otherwise, I will see you around the neighborhood!
