Car strikes pedestrian at 21st and Union

A person crossing Union at 21st Ave was struck by a car on this rainy Sunday afternoon just before 1 PM. At this time, we have no information about the victim or the extent of injuries but can confirm that the injuries were first reported as serious and that the victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Union was closed for about 30 minutes while emergency crews and police responded to the scene. There were no radio calls made to ask for special units to test the driver for impairment. We’ll follow up with Seattle Fire to see if we can find out more about the victim’s condition.

  1. That is terrible! And how is it that I live at that corner and was home all day and didn’t hear or see any of this commotion? I guess I’m too used to hearing sirens from living so close to Providence and First Hill. I hope they are okay.

  2. Condition of victim, live in neighborhood, etc?

That can be a tough place to cross Union; few drivers stop for pedestrians, despite the law.

  3. Is there an update? Crossing 21st in south intersection can be precarious with the cars turning in all directions the cut out from the garage and the cars coming in and coming out of the Union Market parking.
