El Mestizo restaurant now open on Broadway

Today we got a note from the owner Jose that his new Mexican restaurant El Mestizo is open on Broadway, in the block of businesses just south of James. We first mentioned it two weeks ago in our liquor license story.

Jose says:

Lunch is very fast, pick your ingredients, build your own burritos, tacos and quesadillas.
Dinner is a sit down, nice, entree style with waiter service, we serve dishes like birria, mole, enchiladas in mole, chile en nogada, bistec adobado (not your typical mexican dishes, but authentic nontheless)
All sauces and salsas are made in house as well as our tortillas (handmade to order)
We have our liquor license now so are working on a happy hour menu and full drink list
At the moment we are just serving beer and margaritas.

They're open for lunch and dinner. If you go, please leave a review here on the site.

That location seems to be cursed though...
This is the third business that's been there in the past 2 years. The teriyaki place on the corner of Broadway and James seems to do ok (mostly as take-out), but where Mestizo is have been a revolving door of restaurants.

It doesn't help that the East side of the block along Broadway between James and Jefferson isn't very active except for homeless and dealers at the southern corner.

Good luck to them. Maybe if they're able to keep their costs down and offer inexpensive take out they'll do ok.

Seems irrelevant, but...
I wanted to point out that you didn't capitalize Mexican. I'm just trying to help you avoid any confusion that may bring about.

Unbelievable!!!!!
This is by far the best Mexican restaurant I've had the pleasure of dining at in Seattle. The Mole sauce alone is worth the trip. The portion sizes are generous, but not ridiculous. The Carne Asada was seasoned perfectly, and not as tough as skirt steak normally is. The house margarita's were tasty, although in my opinion could be larger. The desert we had was off the hook!!! I can only describe it as a heavy unleavened chocolate cake that was baked with an unbelievable flan on top of it. Truly a remarkable experience all around, right down to the friendly service. This establishment is a huge asset to our community. Go check them out!

Tried it last night...excellent
I went last night with a few CD friends. I had the mole and the queso fundido, and they had an array of other dishes. I agree with Food4Thought, it's one of the best Mexican restaurants I've tried in Seattle. The service was great, the margaritas were strong (although I agree, I wish they were bigger!), and all of the food we had was really outstanding. Prices were in the $10-$15 range for entrees, but it was totally worth it. I hope they do well in this location!

Fantastic!
We are so glad to have great interior Mexican food in Seattle.
We tried the Carne Asada and Al Pastor tacos which were fabulously crispy and tender with a spicy sauce (perhaps with a little spice, cream and nut in it).

I ordered the conchita pibil. However the chef, Ricardo, came over and said that he did not feel like it was tender enough to serve at the time, so he wanted to recommend something else for a better experience. I really appreciated that.

We also enjoyed the chicken mole and the chile en nagado (pecan cream chile relleno with pomegranate). Crazy good! The tortillas were made from a wooden press and heated on a grill right before serving and the spanish rice was perfect as well.

The mojito and margaritas were smooth, but maybe a touch too sweet.
I felt so-so on the flan part of the flan/chocolate plum cake desert, but I don't think they make deserts in house yet. I will try the Tres Leches cake next time....which by the way, will be this weekend. :)
