Broadstripe Meeting on December 5th from 1-2:30 at CASC

Tracy Bier, BW captain of the 30th Ave Neighbors, coordinated a meeting last February to find out if Broadstripe had plans for improving their service.

Several individuals working with neighborhood groups continue to hear serious concerns, --- to the point of property managers reporting people not wanting to rent because Broadstripe is known for bad service.

The meeting on December 5th has been called to bring Broadstripe back to report on their promises to upgrade aspects of their service which they explained last February.  It is important for Broadstripe users to show up.

This is important if you live on the Hill or in the CD byTroy 3 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I've been on the phone with them three times in the past few weeks and have filed a complaint with the city. I was told by a customer service rep that they have been instructed to not send technicians to homes under most circumstances for poor internet service. Short summary: They know their network in Seattle is woefully underperforming, but won't provide a timeline for a fix.
Broadband alternative to Broadstripe byE.B.3 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I got an email today from CLEAR wireless. They're launching 4G wireless broadband on December 1st. They say typical download speeds should be around 3Mbps to 6Mbps. Broadstripe advertises 15 Mbps, but real world results at night is around 1 to 2 Mbps for me here at 26th & S Washington.
RE: Broadband alternative to Broadstripe byDavid A Novak3 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse)
I've had Clearwire (now called Clear) since the summer and right now, 12/2/09, in clear weather (seems to work a little better when it's cloudy) my CNET bandwidth meter is telling me 0.6 to 0.9mbps (600-900kbps). They sent me a new modem and grandfathered me into the 4G deal--but I have not seen much difference at my location.
Comcast update byLudovic3 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I heard from my neighbor that Broadstripe was losing their monopoly on downtown Seattle. She said Comcast would be an option on December 1st. Anyone else know anything?

This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. Never thought I would say this but I look forward to comcast and will not live in a Broadstripe coverage area. Does anyone know why I can't get comcast in the cd. Broasdstripe has the monopoly in the area and I think competetion would be a good think. It would actually make them care.
What about Latency? byGavin Greenwalt3 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I had a complete nightmare of a time with Broadstripe, when it actually worked my latency was in the hundreds of milliseconds which makes gaming and streaming such as Hulu or Netflix impossible. If they simply improve bandwidth but ignore latency then they still haven't really solved their problems. Same problem with Clearwire they might be fast but only for browsing and now interactive or streaming applications where latency is important. I would love to see Broadstripe lose their monopoly.
I couldn't make the meeting-can anyone provide an update on what happened? bytp3 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I have filed many complaints against broadstripe and was looking forward to the meeting. However, I was unable to make it (kids) and would love to know what happened..if anything.
Thanks

Options in CD byJason3 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I shudder to think that my only options are Broadstripe and Qwest.

I really wish there was more and proper competition in this space!

FCC rules cable companies cannot exclusively service multi unit buildings byBrian J3 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I've been trying to get Comcast to hook up my apartment. Several years ago, broadstripe/millenium invaded our area and took several apartment complexes hostage to their inferior product. In June of last year, an appeals court ruled that the FCC ruling stands. Cable companies cannot have exclusivity on apartment buildings and other multi units. Now, if we can just get Comcast to understand the law has changed...

Following is the ruling:

has anyone gotten Comcast? bygrepgirl2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I live near 29th & Jackson and I'm curious if anyone has been able to get Comcast service around here? Seems Brian's post supports that Broadstripe can't have a monopoly, so how do we fix it? I've been more than frustrated with Broadstripe's service and > 1 hr customer service holds. Anyone have a good alternative in the area?
