The Seattle Times has been making a lot of updates to their coverage of the charges against Christopher Monfort in last week's murder of Officer Tim Brenton. One of those updates reveals that Monfort has been left paralyzed from the waist down by the gunshot wounds suffered in his confrontation with police outside his Tukwila apartment last Friday.

Additionally, the Times reports that a statement has been released by Monfort's family:

"Chris Monfort's family, like any other family in the same position, is heartbroken for all parties and is struggling to understand this tragedy," read the statement, which was released through Christopher Monfort's defense attorney, Julie A. Lawry. "At the same time they love and stand by Chris and look forward to coming to a fuller understanding of recent events."

Monfort's mother came down from her home in Alaska after his shooting last week, but she says she has not been allowed to visit him in the hospital. Monfort's condition is now listed as satisfactory.

Monfort coverage byCraig2 months ago (5 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Scott, since the Monfort case is covered extensively by other news sources, is it really necessary to aggregate it all here?

I find myself scrolling past it all to get to the stories that are unique to CD News.

I am glad to get the information posted here. All of us who live in or grew up in the neighborhood are interested in the outcome.
Maybe condense it a little more byCentralCinema2 months ago (3 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I agree that the coverage is probably more extensive than it needs to be even if it did occur here in the neighborhood. Maybe the best way would be to condense all of the articles onto a single page and then add updates. It is gripping to watch the developments in this story but it does feel like it is filling up the whole page.
Times and PI site too messy by26th Neighbor2 months ago (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
At the risk of exposing myself as an undereducated doofus (which I probably have already done anyway), I don't look at the Times and PI sites much because, among other issues (political disagreement with some endorsements, for example) their websites are too messy looking and I don't like trying to sort them for the information I am actually interested in. This site and Slog are, I confess, my main sources for local news that actually affects me and my 'hood, so I am happy to see such issues covered, and I can always scroll past if I'm not interested or burnt out on the subject, since the site is clean and linear.
You don't have to tone it down byArch2 months ago (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
The amount of news on this case will start dropping soon anyway. There will be some more revelations for sure, but soon there will be a quiet spell until the trial. Personally, I appreciate the amount of attention you're giving the case, and I thought your coverage of the immediate aftermath of the murder was incredibly good: definitive but with a feeling for the neighborhood, and how we were feeling, that the local major media wouldn't try to capture. Thanks so much.

Great coverage on the Monfort case. Keep up the good work. Ignore all those who are inconvenienced with "scrolling past" the Monfort stories. As someone who works for a large news agency - you are doing a great job for your community.

I second this, and the comment from Arch above it. This has been the definitive go-to site for the whole sad story. Yes, we need to move on, but if there is any additional useful information between now and the trial, I expect we'll read it first (and most accurately) here, with the appropriate amount of coverage.

SPD has frequently mentioned the amount of community support they have been receiving, and that has been possible in part because of the timely and sensitive reporting on our own CDNews.
Hummmm..... byLuna Azule2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Yes, my fellow commenters... The killing of a young father and guardian of your neighborhood's collective rear-ends gets attention from a web site designed to cover same neighborhood. God forbid we should want to know what happens here!

I won't call your complaints about the amount of coverage on the murder as being complaints from jealous men, when I see you sitting in your car each cold, dark night of the week protecting the Capital Hill neighborhood like he did.

Until then, stop whineing.
