Memorial on 29th Taken Down

With Officer Brenton now laid to rest, the spontaneous memorial that marked the spot of his murder on 29th Avenue has been taken down.

SPD spokesperson Renee Witt tells me that it was removed by East Precinct officers earlier this morning.

It really was an amazing thing to watch as it grew, with people from all over the neighborhood, the city, and the region stopping by to drop off flowers and notes. And SPD commanders have repeatedly commented on how much that meant to Officer Brenton's family and his coworkers on the force.

I rode by this morning & felt even more sadness with the lack of a memorial, than I've felt the previous week. Officer Brenton, you are greatly missed. Thanks to all the SPD & SFD who keep us safe!

I too feel the sadness after the removal. However, I also recognize the need to return to some sort of normalcy. Officers Brenten and Sweeney will be in our thoughts for months or years to come, with or without the memorial. Perhaps we could have a traffic cirle installed at 29th and Spruce in their memorium. Or memorialize the one at 29th and Alder. Just a thought.

name the new fire station at MLK & Jackson in his honor?
A safe place to go in honor of those who risk their lives to keep us safe?

Fabulous ideas!!!
I was so depressed today when I drove down Yesler and saw that everything was gone. I feel like we can't just let the flowers die and pretend like this horrible thing didn't happen.
A memorial NEEDS to happen.

Some kind folks left a bouquet of flowers on Monday at 29th and Yesler. The flowers were put into a plastic container. Does anyone know what the volunteers did with the other flowers?
It would be a great idea to put a traffic circle at 29th and Spruce in honor of Officer Brenton. How do we make "it happen"?
