McGinn's Lead Grows

On election night, a trenchant analysis predicted that:

Although the mayoral race is very close, it's gotta be good news for McGinn. He's had momentum in the last couple of weeks, so Mallahan votes are probably over-represented in the early results. Plus, I think it's safe to assume that younger, more liberal voters will mail their ballots later than others, further increasing his chances.

So far that's looking to be true, as McGinn's lead in the mayor's race grew by almost 2,000 votes, putting him ahead 50.3% to 48.9%.

There's still 130,000 votes left to be counted in the county, with the next set of results to be released at 4:30pm on Monday.

In a few years bykt3 months ago (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
So in a couple of years, I hope that we have a discussion reflecting on what we thought would happen versus what really happened. No matter who wins. I have not shared my worst fears, and maybe this neighborhood would be so changed that no one would even care if my fears are realized. I worry that we will just be a bunch of fancy SLU's and I am left writing articles about the death of the great american city of neighborhoods.

Ah. Okay. I get what you are saying about cheap throw them up condo projects but condos aren't the enemy. I live in a condo by choice because it's greener to live in a multi-family dwelling, plus it's easy to maintain. I'm a family of five. Neighborhoods don't have to be freestanding houses. Look at Brooklyn!

South Lake Unions - i.e., condos
Not 'condos' bykt3 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Unlike most people in Seattle, I am not one of those who needs 'my piece of land'. Have lived in condos and been happy doing it. I'm not talking about the buildings per se, rather the complete displacement of people and uses from the city without a care about it. Neighborhood is the character, people and economics, school parks, churches, etc., who already are here. Will we evolve and dense up gracefully? Or, will it feel like an atom bomb was dropped on us? Doesn't matter which one wins, and who is on council and school board have a lot to do with these question, too.

I think the common ground we need to find as a community is figuring out the issues Kathryn is addressing - we need to grow and change while remembering who we are and where we've been. It's the community piece that is most incumbent upon us as neighbors.
