Crazy Weather Strikes the CD

I don't think I've ever heard such a loud clap of thunder. The 7:15am lightning strike must have been just a few blocks away, and an
apparent casualty was the phone system, as the CDNews DSL is down and refusing to come back after reboots and cursing at th hardware.

The good news is that power is restored to the CD/Leschi/Madrona area after a multi-hour outage early this morning, also caused by lighthning. City Light says the boundaries were Pike St in the north, King St. on the south, 23rd Ave on the west, and Lake Washington to the east.

The heavy rains also appear to have overwhelmed some leaf-clogged storm drains. Let us know in the comments below if you've suffered any localized flooding.

That was nuts, I was just sitting there listening to the rain/hail/frogs coming down when that bolt hit. I've never heard lightning strike so close, anybody know where it hit?

Lightening Stike at 23rd and Yesler Way byYeslerWay3 months ago (2 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Yes, I actually saw where the 7:15am lightening stike hit because it was across the street from where I was waiting for the #48 bus in the blowing rain. It hit a metal street pole in front of the Fire Station at 23rd Ave and Yesler Way sending sparks flying and car alarms ringing (well, at least the immediate clap of thunder did). Standing under the metal bus shelter was suddenly not looking quite as tempting, but bettern than holding an umbrella up.

Ok that's amazing. Glad you are okay, that must have been insane to see from such a close vantage point.

James and 23rd were flooded when I woke up; I spent a half hour cleaning leaves from drains. It looked a lot worse at 22nd and Jefferson at 7:45; there was a pretty deep pool, flooding into people's yards, and an electric bus down.
Power outage byBP3 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
My power is still out at 29th and Yesler.
Seems like this area would have been a priority.
40yr old male died in Shoreline from the storm winds - byRev.Smith3 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
(Fallen tree).

I was on cap hill all night:
when gusts hit around midnight, they turned into sustained streams of power- felt like a very shortlived mini hurricane.
Glad friends and family are safe, sorry to hear power went out in leschi.

Anyone see where that one hit? (YeslerWay? Twice in one day?)
That was amazing.

Lightening never strikes twice, right?
this morning's lightning byJill3 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I'm at 22nd and Fir and that lightning strike this morning fried my cable modem. The surge didn't come through the electrical line - it came through the cable line. So, if it struck at 23rd and Yesler, then it traveled 3 blocks through the cable lines? Anybody else get their cable modem fried?
