madrona house move tonight - update w/ video

The two houses from the Epiphany School property had a successful ride down the hill to their new homes in Madison valley last night, making it without damage and right on schedule.

Here's a video we put together of the move:

 

10:20PM - madrona house move tonight - live on cdnews - There's quite a crowd watching. People have set up house moving parties all along the way on Howell.
10:38PM - madrona house move tonight - live on cdnews - House # 1 is halfway up Howell now. Both houses are supposed to hold at 34th until midnight.
10:45PM - Cellphone deadzone, so the updates will be sparse. Sorry. Thanks AT&T!
12:37AM - I know some city departments have gotten some bad press recently, but the city light crews seem to hav it together. They're already hooking power back up on the east side of 34th. The houses are still in a holding pattern at 33rd and howell.
2:34AM - The houses have made it past the hardest part: down the hill and around the curves on Denny Way. Theyre now sitting on Denny next to the drainage pond. Soon they'll part ways for the first time in 100 years, with one going north and one south on 30th.
3:46AM - House #2 is in place on a lot south of 30th & Denny. A very happy homowner was there to greet it with a bottle of champagne. House #1 is about to start backing its way down 29th to its new lot.
4:39AM - Sorry for the lack of updates- massive lack of AT&T coverage here. The second house is moving across 34th now. The first has been holding at 33rd & Howell for about an hour. It's an amazing sight, and there's still a big crowd even at midnight.
4:48AM - The final house got settled into place right on schedule at 4am. The whole thing went very smoothly, given the scale of the operation and the narrow, steep, curvy streets they had to negotiate. Super-fun to watch!

It was quite a sight! Lot's of people came out to see the 2 houses being moved to their new locations.
Many held their breath as the house was pulled out of the basketball court onto Howell with a very tricky turn!
I am sure the news will have coverage of this amazing event!

Great coverage and awesome video. Somehow, I didn't realize that the houses were moving down into Madison Valley--I had seen all of the no parking signs yesterday afternoon, but now I've got the full picture!

As one of the buyers of the now-moved houses (the one whose family is actually moving into the moved house), it's been an intense & emotional couple of months. I just want to thank the folks that operate this blog for your coverage & your community service in making this news & comment forum available to all of us for free. The dialogue on this blog was what caused the Seattle Times reporter to track us down & write an article, which somehow made it to the front page (!!) -- two days later, we were working on a peaceful settlement with the Howell St. neighbors whose trees were impacted by the route switch. As y'all have no doubt surmised by now, this meant the houses got saved and everyone got what they needed.

Thank you for making and sharing the video, it turned out really well. Have to admit, I almost wished I stayed at home instead of seeing everything real time (slow motion?). Also, congratulations to the proud owners of the these two gorgeous homes! It's wonderful that you have agreed to preserve them. I wonder if all of the neighbours on the block knew about the move. Otherwise, I can see it being very puzzling to someone to walk by an empty lot in the evening and see a house in the morning.
